Forest Learning Center
Description

The Forest Learning Center, operated by Weyerhaeuser Company in partnership with the Washington State Department of Transportation and the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, is a free, hands‑on educational destination that brings the dramatic story of Mount St. Helens to life. Located along State Route 504 (Spirit Lake Memorial Highway) inside the volcanic blast zone, the center offers immersive exhibits, interactive displays, and outdoor experiences that explore the 1980 eruption and the remarkable recovery of forests, wildlife, and ecosystems that followed.

Step inside and walk through a lifelike forest, experience the powerful “Eruption Chamber,” take a virtual helicopter tour above the mountain, and learn about reforestation, conservation, and sustainable forest management. The center also features a short interpretive trail with scenic views of Mount St. Helens and the Toutle River valley, picnic areas, and opportunities to see elk and other wildlife in their recovering habitat.

Whether you’re a nature lover, a student group, or a traveler curious about one of the Pacific Northwest’s most defining natural events, the Forest Learning Center offers an informative, inspiring, and family‑friendly experience that highlights the resilience of forests and the importance of land stewardship.Gift Shop: Open Now: 7 days a week from 10 am to 4 pm Exhibits will open: May 16th 2026 - September 27th 2026Free Admission
